Irumudi has turned into a career-defining success for Ravi Teja, with the film crossing the ₹200 crore gross mark worldwide and continuing to draw strong crowds well into its second and third weekends. The success has also surprised the team, particularly because the film has managed to turn its theatrical run into a highly profitable one across the Telugu states and overseas.
Director Shiva Nirvana believes a major part of the film’s impact came from how Ravi Teja was presented as Irumudi Trinadh. Speaking about his approach to the character, he said that every filmmaker wants to leave a distinct impression when given the opportunity to work with a star. His intention was to make audiences remember Ravi Teja through Trinadh even after leaving the theatre, and he feels the actor’s performance made that possible.
The director also explained why the film chose to explore some uncomfortable aspects of society, particularly in its portrayal of teachers and the Guru Swamy character. According to Shiva, the intention was never to target an entire profession or community, but to acknowledge that vulnerable situations can sometimes push even otherwise good people towards wrong choices. He felt showing those darker realities was necessary to make the film’s positive aspects more firmly resonate.
Ravi Teja’s performance was central to that approach, with Shiva saying the actor gave him complete freedom to explore the darker side of the character without diluting it. The filmmaker wanted audiences to walk out with a heavy heart rather than treat Irumudi as just another commercial entertainer. The strong response from women and audiences across generations appears to have given that emotional approach a much wider reach than the team initially anticipated.
The producers too admit that the film has gone far beyond their expectations. Mythri Movie Makers revealed that they expected Irumudi to perform well, but even they were surprised by the pace of its collections and profitability. With strong footfalls continuing even on weekdays, the production house is now in discussions with its OTT partner about extending the theatrical window, citing the continued audience interest as the reason.
